The humanitarian fund-raising campaign „Aid to forests and foresters of Ukraine“ is aimed at helping with maintenance and restoration of care for forest ecosystems of Ukraine. The main purpose of the funds will be to restore inventory and management of forests in Ukraine, as well as to help with other forestry activities. The beneficiary of the aid will be the State Forest Resources Agency of Ukraine, which manages 73 % of local forests.

  • The proceeds of the collection will be assigned to restoration of the function of the Ukrainian State Forest Management Planning Enterprise (Ukrderzhlisproekt), or possibly will be used to purchase the required equipment and to further help Ukrainian forests and foresters.

    More than 4,5 thousand foresters fight in the ranks of the armed forces and other paramilitary units of Ukraine. However, foresters also face a huge risk performing their profession. As of April 25, 17 foresters had died in Ukraine.

    The fights affected 2,9 million ha of forest land (area of forests in the Czech Republic is 2,6 million ha). The area of occupied forest land amounts to 1,5 million ha. On 20 % of the forest area it is not possible to carry out forestry activities as a consequence of the war.

    The building of the Ukrainian State Forest Management Planning Enterprise (Ukrderzhlisproekt) was destroyed during the occupation of the city of Irpin. Most of the office and special equipment, devices and materials, cars used in the national inventory and management of forests were lost.

„Fights of varying intensity have already taken place on 2 907 000 ha of forest land. About 4,5 thousand foresters joined the ranks of the armed forces and other paramilitary units. The area of occupied forest land amounts to 1 478 000 ha, which means that on 20 % of the forest area it was practically impossible to realize forestry activities due to military operations.

Most of the forestry infrastructure in Trostjanec is destroyed. The building and equipment of the Ukrainian State Forest Management Planning Enterprise (Ukrderzhlisproekt) in Irpin in the Kyiv region, which conducted inventory and taxation, is devastated.

From the first hours of the war in Ukraine, foresters had before them a task to make maximum effort to win, keep carrying out their job and support the Ukrainian economy. Foresters who do not defend Ukraine in the ranks of the army do everything they can every day to help functioning of the Ukrainian economy.“
